LUGHNASADH
The First Harvest & Festival of the Sun King
THEMES

Also known as Lammas this is the festival of the first harvest, and the festival of the Celtic Sun King Lugh.

The energy associated with Lugh is starting to wane, an awareness of the slow progression towards the dark part of the year, a time of change.
All across Europe festivals and celebrations take place to celebrate the cutting of the corn & the grains, breaking bread (Lammas : Loaf Mass) & making beer, with festivities & dancing in circles to celebrate the cycles of the sun.

Names you'll hear at this time of year include Sun God, the God of the Harvest, the Green Man, and John Barleycorn, all tied to the collection of seed for next year's rebirth, regeneration and harvest. Also the production of the 'corn dolly' to keep above the hearth until the harvest next year.
